Yes, it may spoil the fun, but it was also a good academic exercise to prove it could be done. Soon after completing his spreadsheet, Ian applied for a job, using it as an example to demonstrate his Excel skills.

Though this spreadsheet uses just three basic rules to attempt solving the puzzles, many more techniques are available to sudoku puzzlers. Many of these are too difficult to include in a basic spreadsheet like this one.
