Ian designs solutions for businesses. Solutions that involve computers. That's his day job; it combines what he enjoys doing. So much of his early career focused on fixing issues that arose, and how to automate (or work-around) these fixes.
Workarounds are meant to be temporary, and, in 2005, Ian stopped working at fixing errors and changed tack - making workarounds obsolete.
Let's say that again : Workarounds are meant to serve a stopgap purpose, never anything more permanent. When workarounds are the norm, you aren't thriving. You're merely surviving, and that's exactly how your competitors want to see you.
Suppose : one of your staff members leaves and no-one knew exactly what they did, just that their job function isn't being done now, and customers aren't happy.
You are losing business. If there's a more efficient way of doing things, give Ian a call and he can try to simplify things for you.
